The Faculty of Composition, Conducting, Vocal Studies, Music Theory and Artistic Education of the I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań offers four majors: composition and music theory, conducting, vocal studies and artistic education in musical art.

The Faculty comprises four Institutes composed of their substantive units: departments and sections:

THE INSTITUTE OF COMPOSITION AND MUSIC THEORY:

The Institute offers full-time first-cycle (Bachelor) and second-cycle (Master) courses in Composition and Music Theory in five specializations:

  • Composition (Bachelor and Master) – specialization: Film and Theatre Music (Master), New Media Music Composition  (Master)
  • Music Theory (Bachelor and Master)
  • Eurhythmics (Bachelor), Eurhythmics with Rhythmic Movement Therapy (Master)
  • Music Journalism (Bachelor) – also for candidates with no prior music education
  • Electroacoustic Composition (Bachelor) – also for candidates with no prior music education

Composition:

  • trains in composing music (including electroacoustic, film and theatre music)
  • prepares students for creating music independently and provides them with proper professional expertise, versatile skills and composing technique
  • develops individuality and creative personality
  • provides basic skills in management, music promotion and copyright

Music Theory:

  • trains in all aspects of music theory
  • prepares to conduct academic work based on research methods used in the humanities with an all-cultural perspective
  • prepares to pursue a teaching career
  • implements for journalistic (dissemination) activity and work in the media
  • educates in management and promotion of culture (music)

Eurhythmics:

  • educates in all aspects of Émil Jaques-Dalcroze’s method, including eurhythmics, ear training, piano improvisation and movement composition of musical works
  • prepares artists in  choreography of music with the appropriate amount of professional knowledge and comprehensive technical skills
  • prepares for a teaching career in music education of all levels, in general education and in the amateur movement
  •  prepares to conduct rhythmic therapy classes in treatment, rehabilitation and prevention
  • provides skills in management and promotion of culture (music)

Music Journalism:

  • educates in the rudiments of music
  • introduces into journalistic (dissemination) activities
  • prepares for a career in media and cultural institutions

Electroacoustic Composition:

  • educates in the rudiments of music
  • guarantees mastery of the basic composing technique of electroacoustic music
  • shapes comprehensive development of a creative personality

THE INSTITUTE OF CONDUCTING:

The Institute offers full-time first-cycle (Bachelor) and second-cycle (Master) courses in Conducting in five specializations:

  • Symphonic Conducting (Bachelor)
  • Choral Conducting (Bachelor and Master)
  • Symphonic and Opera Conducting (Master)
  • Brass Band Conducting (Bachelor and Master)
  • Ensemble Vocal Performance (Master) – NEW!

Symphonic Conducting:

  • trains in symphonic conducting
  • teaches conducting symphony orchestras and chamber vocal and instrumental ensembles and various types of instrumental ensembles
  • prepares for a career in musical cultural institutions

Choral Conducting:

  • trains in choral conducting
  • offers to gain qualifications to lead professional, amateur and school vocal, vocal and instrumental, and instrumental ensembles
  • prepares for a career in musical cultural institutions
  • offers skills in culture (music) management and promotion

Symphonic and Opera Conducting:

  • trains in symphonic and opera conducting
  • prepares for a career in opera theatres
  • prepares for work with vocal ensembles and solo singers
  • teaches conducting symphony orchestras and chamber vocal and instrumental ensembles and various types of instrumental ensembles
  • offers skills in culture (music) management and promotion

Brass Band Conducting (studies in Polish only):

  • offers to gain qualifications to lead professional, amateur and school brass bands
  • prepares for a career in cultural institutions and the media as well as animation of musical life in various communities
  • offers skills in culture (music) management and promotion

Ensemble Vocal Performance – NEW!

  • offers to gain qualifications to sing in vocal ensembles or professional choirs in opera theatres and philharmonics
  • prepares for a career in vocal training and rehearsal tutoring
  • trains in a cappella singing with particular focus on vocal development, choir voice blending, and performance practice based on knowledge of the standard oratorio, cantata and opera repertoire

 

THE INSTITUTE OF VOCAL STUDIES:

The Institute offers full-time first-cycle (four-year) and second-cycle courses in Vocal Studies in two specializations:

  • Solo Singing (Bachelor and Master)
  • Musical Theatre Singing (Bachelor)

The Institute also offers a fee-paying course at the Musical Theatre Study Centre – Head: dr hab. Aleksandra Kamińska-Rykowska

Solo Singing:

  • trains artists in singing and acting
  • prepares students for solo careers in opera and musical theatres as well as stage performances in cantata, oratorio and lied music
  • prepares students for teaching careers in music education
  • offers skills in culture (music) management and promotion

Musical Theatre Singing:

  • trains artists in singing and acting
  • prepares students for solo careers in musical theatres as well as stage performances
  • offers skills in culture (music) management and promotion

THE MUSICAL THEATRE STUDY CENTRE:

Coordinator – dr hab. Aleksandra Kamińska-Rykowska

  • trains artists in singing and acting
  • prepares students for careers on musical theatre stages, both as soloists and ensemble members
  • prepares for the StageSchool Musical Theatre Exam
  • offers knowledge and skills related to Personal Branding

 

THE INSTITUTE OF ARTISTIC EDUCATION (STUDIES IN POLISH ONLY!):

The Institute offers full-time first- and second-cycle courses in Artistic Education in Musical Arts in the following specializations:

  • Music Education (Bachelor)
  • Artistic Projects in Music Education (Master)
  • Church Music (Bachelor and Master)
  • Leading School Music Ensembles (Bachelor and Master)

Music Education:

  • prepares for teaching in primary music education and general education in accordance with the binding regulations
  • gives skills to lead amateur and school vocal, vocal-instrumental and instrumental ensembles
  • prepares for activities in cultural institutions and in the media, as well as for the animation of musical life in various musical environments.

Artistic Projects in Music Education

  • prepares to create and manage original educational and artistic projects
  • gives the skills to lead music ensembles (vocal, vocal-instrumental and instrumental) in public institutions and private companies that provide impresarios of artists and artistic ensembles, where there is a demand for animation activities
  • prepares for musical activities in cultural institutions, the media and other entities that conduct activities in the field of culture, organization of festivals, competitions and musical events, as well as the animation of culture in society
  • prepares to teach in general secondary education and in second-level music education in accordance with the applicable regulations
  • enables students to gain qualifications in academic and teaching activities in tertiary education and teacher training institutions teaching in the field of artistic education in the musical arts
  • graduates of bachelor’s degree studies in fields other than Artistic Education in the Musical Art are given the opportunity (as optional classes) to realize the subjects of training preparing to practice the profession of a teacher in general and artistic elementary education in accordance with the binding regulations

Church Music:

  • enables students to gain qualifications in organ and liturgical playing
  • prepares to lead amateur, church and school vocal, vocal-instrumental and instrumental ensembles
  • prepares for activities in churches, cultural institutions and the media, as well as for the animation of musical life in various musical environments
  • gives the opportunity (as optional classes) to realize training subjects preparing for the teaching profession in accordance with the binding regulation.

Leading School Music Ensembles:

  • allows students to gain qualifications in leading amateur and school vocal, vocal-instrumental and instrumental ensembles
  • prepares for activities related to the organization of artistic events: competitions, festivals and other cultural projects
  • prepares for artistic activity in cultural institutions and the media, as well as the animation of musical life in various musical environments
  • gives the opportunity (as optional classes) to realize training subjects preparing for the teaching profession in accordance with the binding regulations.
