The Institute of Conducting was established in 2019 as a result of the reform of the Academy’s structure. It combined all the specialties related to the conducting major, previously operating in different faculties. The new unit brings together highly specialized and experienced staff, providing an extremely broad spectrum of education and a rich program of studies.

The units within the Institute boast a wealth of artistic and academic activities. The Department of Symphonic Conducting and Opera Conducting enables students to collaborate and perform graduation recitals with such ensembles as the Opole Philharmonic Orchestra, the Koszalin Philharmonic Orchestra and the Kalisz Philharmonic Orchestra. It also organizes masterclasses given by distinguished conductors including Paul McCreesh, Ariel Zuckermann, Marek Pijarowski, Jerzy Maksymiuk, and Jong-Jie Yin, as well as the Department’s teachers. Most of these events feature the AMP Symphony Orchestra or the AMP String Chamber Orchestra. The showcase of the Department of Choral Conducting includes the Prof. Stanislaw Kulczyński National Competition for Choral Conductors and the Choral Music Interpretation Course. There are also regular concerts in the cycle “Pedagogues and Their Choirs” and “Graduates and Their Choirs.” The Department also collaborates with the Stefan Stuligrosz Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music in organizing workshops and concerts.

The Section of Brass Band Conducting is also part of the Institute. Thanks to close collaboration with the Representative Band of the Air Force in Poznań and having a chance to gain experience in conducting such a renowned ensemble during their studies, graduates have the opportunity to apply for prestigious positions as bandmasters of military orchestras in the Polish Armed Forces.
