The Section of Opera Music was established in 2012. In the years 2019/2020-2024, it was renamed into the Section of Vocal and Instrumental Music Interpretation.

The Section of Opera Music is composed of academic teachers from the group of research and teaching academics as well as teaching staff, whose subject of activity, artistic or academic interest coincides with the tasks of the Section. It was established in order to organize and pursue artistic and research work in the broadly understood problem of interpretation of the large forms of vocal and instrumental music.

The Section’s activities include academic and research work on performance and interpretation issues in opera and operetta theater, as well as compositions strictly related to the stage. Academic and teaching materials related to these issues are developed and published; the Section is also responsible for obtaining and archiving documentary materials related to the staging of performances and concerts, such as elements of stage design, posters, programs, and recordings. Exercising substantive supervision, the Section participates in the developing, updating and possible expanding of curricula in specialized subjects such as opera ensembles, opera workshops, opera parts, musical development of opera roles, and improvisation and performance of recitatives. The Section’s tasks include organizing student stage practice, developing plans for student opera and operetta performances and their implementation.

In collaboration with the Department of Vocal Studies, the Section organizes courses, symposiums, academic sessions, workshops and academic and artistic conferences, supporting the academic and artistic development of Section members. The Section also collaborates with domestic and foreign music institutions in preparing young singers for roles in opera and operetta productions, as well as solo and ensemble parts on concert stages.
