The Section of Brass Band Conducting
The Section of Brass Band Conducting is a substantive unit of the I. J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań. It began its activities in 2019 as part of the Conducting major. The impetus for the establishment of the Section was the dynamically developing specialty of brass band conducting, functioning since 2010 at the then Department of Choral Studies. Its graduates serve as conductors of military orchestras in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Poland, and also conduct various types of brass bands affiliated with local cultural centers.
The Section of Brass Band Conducting collaborates with the Orchestra of the City of Poznań and numerous orchestras of the Poznań district and Wielkopolska province. Since its inception, the specialty has been based on close collaboration with the Representative Orchestra of the Air Force in Poznań.
The Section also collaborates with the Department of Wind Instruments, the Department of Choral Conducting and the Department of Church Music. A significant result of the Section’s activities is the Brass Orchestra of the Academy of Music, which has been operating since 2019, and boasts recordings of works by Feliks Nowowiejski, Karol Kurpiński, Henryk Czyż, Leon Landowski and Agnieszka Zdrojek-Suchodolska, registered during a concert as part of the “Colors of Wind Instruments” – “Music of the Masters” Conference (2020).
