The Department was established in 2012, making it one of the youngest academic units of the Academy of Music in Poznań. The Department is made up of pianists from the Department of Piano who lead chamber ensembles, accompanists who work on a daily basis with students of other specialties, and teachers who lead chamber ensembles together with the pianists.

The chamber musicians take an active part in the majority of regular academic concerts. A particularly noteworthy event is a cycle “Masterpieces of Chamber Music” initiated by an outstanding violinist, a doctor honoris causa of our Academy, Professor Jadwiga Kaliszewska, who for many years combined the function of the Head of the Department of String Instruments and the Head of the Department of Chamber Music.

The Department’s tasks include:

• organization of the teaching process,
• developing research programs and supervising research conducted by the Department’s staff,
• presenting the artistic and academic achievements of the Department’s staff,
• collaborating with the Departments of Piano Chamber Music of Polish and foreign music academies,
• organization of concerts, courses and academic conferences.

As part of the latter activity, annual academic sessions “In the Circle of Piano Chamber Music” are held, including lectures by outstanding Polish and foreign chamber musicians and chamber music concerts.
