Formal and Administrative Support

At the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music, we provide administrative support for the employment of foreign nationals. The employment process follows the same legal framework and standards as for Polish citizens, in accordance with the Law on Higher Education and Science (PSWiN).

Legal Requirements for Academic Staff (Art. 113, PSWiN)

An academic teacher must:

  1. Have the qualifications specified in the law and in the university’s Statute.
  2. Have no disciplinary penalty as specified in Art. 276(1), points 7 and 8.
  3. Meet the requirements listed in Art. 20(1), points 1–3.
  4. Submit a statement of no criminal record.

Required Documents

All candidates (regardless of nationality) are expected to provide:

  • Curriculum Vitae (CV)
  • Diplomas and academic degrees
  • Proof of legal stay and work eligibility in Poland

Note: A work permit is not required for foreign nationals employed in scientific or academic roles. However, a valid residence and work entitlement is necessary.

Residency Documents

  • EU/EEA Citizens: Must register their stay at the Voivodeship Office if staying longer than 3 months.
  • Non-EU Citizens: Must hold a valid visa or residence permit, if applicable.

Employment Procedures

  • Recruitment through open competition is required if the employment exceeds ½ of a full-time position.
  • A bilingual employment contract is recommended.
  • The employment is governed by the Polish Labour Code, ensuring equal treatment with Polish citizens.

Upon employment, the following formalities are completed:

  • Occupational health and safety training (BHP)
  • Pre-employment medical examination
  • Registration with the Social Security (ZUS) system – within 7 days
  • Income tax and social contribution deductions as per Polish law

Other Practical Support

  • PESEL Number & Residency Registration: The PESEL number (Polish national ID number) is automatically assigned during temporary residence registration at the City Office.
  • Assistance with opening a bank account: Support can be provided upon request.
