Double Bass Masterclass with Professor Péter Kubina from Budapest
On 18th-20th November 2025, The I.J. Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań is going to host Professor Péter Kubina, an eminent double bassist and member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra in Budapest.
Professor Kubina will teach his classes according to the following schedule:

Péter Kubina is a distinguished Hungarian double bassist and educator, acclaimed for both his orchestral and solo performances. His musical journey began at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest under the mentorship of Professors Aladár Pege and Zoltán Tibay. He obtained his diploma in 1986 and pursued private studies with Professor Lajos Montag between 1977 and 1992.
Since 1984, Kubina has been a member of the Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra. His dedication and artistry were recognized in 1995 when he was appointed principal bass — a position he continues to hold.
Alongside his orchestral commitments, Kubina has built an impressive academic career at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music in Budapest. He joined the faculty as an assistant professor in 1987, working alongside Professor Zoltán Tibay. His teaching career progressed with appointments as senior lecturer in 1998, obtaining a Doctor of Liberal Arts degree in 2009, becoming associate professor in 2010, and habilitated associate professor in 2020. In his teaching, he places strong emphasis on orchestral performance, guiding students in preparing for rehearsals and professional ensemble work.
As principal bass of the National Philharmonic Orchestra, Kubina has contributed to numerous award-winning recordings and has performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, both in Hungary and abroad. He has had the privilege of collaborating with leading conductors and soloists from Hungary and beyond.
In addition to his orchestral work, Kubina regularly appears as a soloist. His concert repertoire features not only original double bass compositions but also his own acclaimed arrangements, reflecting his commitment to expanding the instrument’s expressive possibilities and repertoire.
